Bathtub Reglazing Plano TX

What is bathtub reglazing?

It’s the same process as bathtub refinishing or tub resurfacing. In different industries and different markets, some define bathtub reglazing as the stripping off of an existing tub resurfacing and then respraying the bathtub again. There really is no one term that’s right or wrong; use whatever you prefer! A little web research will tell you though that the most popular term is bathtub refinishing and that is what most contractors and customers use to describe the tub renovation process. The same can be said for any of the other bath and kitchen refinishing processes. Bathroom wall tile reglazing is the same as wall tile resurfacing for example!

The Bathtub Refinishing Plano Experts Method:

The process that a company or contractor uses is a HUGE factor in how well your bathtub resurfacing holds up. We’re big believers in the traditional process of refinishing and don’t count on any miracle method of tub reglazing. Our process ensures our customers get both a mechanical and chemical bond! That’s why we have such a great warranty (one that’s better than the one that comes with many brand new tubs!!) We can also do cracked bathtub repair or tub chip repair as part of our process or as a stand alone service. Here’s how the Bathtub Refinishing Plano Experts approach your bathtub reglazing:

·       Inspect and Evaluate: The very first thing our professional technicians will do is verify the information we received over the phone from you and any pictures we received. This is critical. There are different approaches that need to be taken based on your tub surface and it’s past tub resurfacing history.

·       Etch and Clean: This is the bulk of the work!! Any bath or kitchen surface must be well cleaned and prepped to ensure proper coating adhesion. Our etch is completely safe for your plumbing lines and helps to “degloss” the surface so that our finish bond INTO the surface of your tub and doesn’t just sit on the shiny surface. Many contractors have moved away from this and replaced this step with their version of a miracle method commonly referred to as a “wipe on primer.”

·       Protect: We use blue tape on all painted surfaces and wall paper. Then 12” paper is placed on top of the blue masking tape to cover adjacent walls, floors, and fixtures. Drop cloths or plastic is used to protect areas further from the spray area such as mirrors and vanities.

·       Exhaust: One of the final steps before we spray on your new bathtub coating is to bring in a 12” air mover to exhaust overspray and fumes out of your house. This helps tremendously with minimizing the time it takes for any chemical residue to clear.

·       Spray: This is the fun part! We finally get to make that tub and tile look like new! Right before spraying we do a solvent wash to catch any oil or dirt residue and thoroughly dry the surface to maximize bonding.

What Types of Bathtubs Can Be Reglazed?

The short answer is that we can do bathtub refinishing or tub reglazing on pretty much any bathtub surface to include porcelain, pressed metal, fiberglass, acrylic, and cultured marble. As I mentioned above our process for preparation will vary depending upon which tub surface you have. We can even do jetted bathtubs! The final step… spraying on the enamel coating is done on all surface types. Bathtub crack repair can also be added if necessary as part of the prep process. This can save a fiberglass tub and shower combo unit. Replacing one of these can run as much as $3500 and a 1 piece unit can’t even be put back in. You’ll lose that seamless seal you get from a fiberglass insert. This is one of the biggest “bang for your buck” we have to offer!  Here's an article with an overview to tub reglazing.

How Do I Find the Right Bathtub Refinishing Contractor?

The internet has made finding a great contractor EXTREMELY easy!  A simple search on Google for "Bathtub Reglazing Near Me" will uncover several different tub refinishers to compare and contrast!  Just make sure and ask some key questions to help you avoid inexperienced or unreliable individuals or businesses:

  • What process do they use?  The most reliable BY FAR is acid etch for prep... avoid the "wipe on" miracle method approach!
  • What kind of warranty and guarantee is offered?  Most problems from a poor coating and/or bad prep will show up within the 1st year.  Ensure you have a warranty AT LEAST longer than a year.
  • How long has the company been in operation?  Bathtub refinishing is as much an art as a science!  Experience is critical.
  • Insurance:  Any reputable company will have liability and worker's compensation to protect themselves and their customers!
